Building Maintenance Technician

About the Role

Reporting to the Supervisor Infrastructure Maintenance, you will provide preventative and breakdown repairs in a safe and efficient manner to ensure high availability of operational buildings and infrastructure across Newman Operations West & East. 

Your duties will include;

Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.

An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.

Perform work up to and including the maintenance and repair of buildings, roadways, gardens and fixed plant infrastructure.

Accept a high level of ownership of Maintenance activities and equipment.

Maintain various equipment and infrastructure including commissioning, faultfinding and repair.

Facilitate and complete “Whole of Job Function”, which includes pre work, preparation of JHA’s, Take 5’s and/or Work Instructions, organise materials, execution, test-out, hand-back and sign-off of work orders.

Undertake inspections of all assets, infrastructure and maintenance tooling.


You will be working across our Eastern Ridge and Mount Whaleback operations on a residential arrangement. The Operation is made up of several deposits and contributes to the overall ore production of the Newman Joint Venture hub. 

This position will work on our Lifestyle Roster - dayshift only, with a block of days off at the end of each swing. Employees on this roster enjoy two full weekends off out of four and will align to the following shift rotation: 4D5X, 5D4X, 5D5X. 

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

Carpentry or Building Trade Qualification essential.

Background in Construction or Infrastructure maintenance

Computer Literacy to use the following systems – 1SAP, MS Excel and Word.

Valid Australian C Class Drivers’ Licence (minimum) 

Knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspections Regulations 1995 and the Mines Safety and Inspections Act Regulations 1994 and AS4292 Requirements.

A proven track record of safety management 

Must be able to work at a high standard autonomously

Strong communication and relationship management skills
