About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experience Industrial IT & Automation professional to join the Global Alumina and Bauxite Information Technology and Automation solutions group.
As the Mining Systems Specialist, you will be the subject matter expert in Mining applications, infrastructure and digital solutions across the Mining Operational environment.
You will provide high-level technical services to Bauxite mining operations in the areas of control, infrastructure and computer networks, mining execution systems, as well as automation and digital innovation, to assist in optimising operation, reducing costs, improve productivity and increase competitiveness. You are customer-oriented problem solver with solid skills in project management and continues improvement practices.
You will ensure delivery of effective and creative infrastructure solutions based on business strategic requirements by working with business process owners in collaboration with ITAS Infrastructure and Applications Teams and understanding of their current and future business needs and translate them into system requirements and creative solutions.
The Mining Systems Specialist is primarily responsible for:
Assist with planning and execution of Infrastructure projects and program of work supporting MES, Information Application functions.
Maximise the effectiveness of the existing and newly developed solutions and technologies through effective communication, by managing timely planning and changes;
Execution of training and mentorship of customers and end users;
Computer facilities management;
Provide technical compliance and approval of system design activities;
Handle mining information and control Systems after-hours roster coverage;
Responsible for critical issue of incidents and resolutions for offsite assistance;
Perform auditing and compliance tasks and corrective actions;
Ensure all the activities are following health, safety and environment policies in Alcoa - running all activities and projects per established guidelines and processes and ensure alignment to compliance requirements;

To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Process Control or Instrumentation/Electrical trade with an extensive experience in delivering services to mining or heavy industry in business application development. You will have excellent communication skills as well as a working knowledge of relevant tools and technologies to provide the business with strategic direction and advice, technical assistance and support. You will have a significant experience in managing the infrastructure, MES, Process Control and SCADA systems and strong commercial acumen that drives the translation of customer requirements into practical outcomes.
Working knowledge of the following tools/technologies:
Windows Server and MES applications administration;
Experion, OSI Soft PI, Jigsaw and Ampla Systems administration;
Middleware / XML Services; Remote Monitoring;
LCN / UCN Implementation and Management;
Process Control Networks troubleshooting;
Information Management and Mining;
Citect SCADA and HPM support and maintenance;
VMware virtualisation and Veeam backup applications;
About where you will work
Huntly Bauxite Mine is located in the Darling Range near Dwellingup, approximately 100 kilometres south of Perth. It is the world’s second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa’s Pinjarra and Kwinana alumina refineries. Approximately 620 people work at the mine.
Willowdale Bauxite Mine is located in the Darling Range near Waroona, approximately 120 kilometres south of Perth. It mines and supplies bauxite ore to Alcoa’s Wagerup Alumina Refinery. Approximately 300 people work at the mine.
