Purpose of the Role :

The purpose of this role is to provide efficient co-ordination and supervision of resources for the execution of maintenance activities and projects on site including the fabrication, assembly, grinding and shaping of metal parts and subassemblies associated with plant machinery and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience:  

Advanced Trade Certified Fitter & Turner or Level 4 trade qualification or equivalent

Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy industries, mining preferred

Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy industries, mining preferred

Basic NDT skills required: dye penetration testing etc

Basic NDT skills desirable: handheld thickness metre, MPI

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

In fulfilling this role, the following general accountabilities will apply:

Ensure operational safety procedures are respected

Participate in any incident investigation as required

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings

Ability to use manual and CNC turning lathes

Knowledge of industrial machining techniques

Ability to use measuring equipment for quality control checks

Knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and procedures for machine tools

Ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow instructions

Flexible approach to work hours and willingness to work shifts

Ability to Load/unload parts, distinguishing and identifying proper tooling/collets/fixtures

Ability to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometer and dial caliper.

Reliability, precision and attention to detail

Liaise with Engineering Team and Planners to develop work schedules and assign these to team

Able to Prioritize and direct maintenance resources to maximize plant reliability

Identify opportunities to improve reliability and machine uptime with minimum re-works

Fits and assembles structural frameworks and housings from materials, such as angle iron, I-beams, and plate steel, using handtools and welding equipment and following blueprint specifications: Examines blueprints and materials list to obtain parts specifications.

Lays out parts dimensions on worktable, using square, chalk line, and soapstone.

Tack-welds scrap metal to outline to provide jig for assembly.

Positions parts in jig and files, chisels, and grinds parts, as indicated, to fit them together.

May heat parts with acetylene torch and bend them in vise, on anvil, or around stakes mounted in table.

Tack-welds fitted parts together or directs fitter helper to tack-weld parts.

May heat parts with acetylene torch and dip parts in cyanide bath to harden.

Ability to compares dimensions of assembly to blueprint specifications, using square, rule, and callipers.

Ability to anneal parts with acetylene torch to remove stresses of welding.

Ability fasten parts together with acetylene torch and brazing rod.

Ability to communicate professionally in a work environment

Problem Solving skills

Technically minded and understand clearly what is required to execute the work

Able to lead a team in an isolated environment with planning, delegation and coordination of tasks.

The successful applicant will be appointed on a two (02) year contract with a US dollar-based salary and a rotation schedule.
