About the Role:

We have recently created a new position of Senior Manager Industrial Relations (IR) to support Peabody’s IR strategy and minimise risk across our Australian platform.  Peabody’s Australian business includes Brisbane head office, 6 operating mines, several rehabilitation sites and numerous projects in remote Queensland and New South Wales. 

Duties will include:

Development and implementation of Peabody Australia IR strategy

Play a lead role in EA negotiations

Support site HR in creation of legal documentation

Provide high-level IR advice and support to Peabody Australia

Assist Peabody US with IR matters as required

Represent Peabody at FWC/court conciliations and hearings as the Peabody lead

Ensure compliance with Australian legislation

Collect, analyze and interpret data including conducting risk assessments and investigations

Partner with senior operations leadership and HR team to design, implement and revise employee relations programs, policies and practices

Design, deliver and evaluate training programs designed to build capability and knowledge for operations leadership and HR

The lifestyle:

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis working from our South Brisbane office with occasional travel to our Australian mine sites.  Peabody offers flexible start / finish times and 'Summer Hours' giving employees the flexibility to finish at noon on Friday's for 6 months of the year commencing in October.

About you:

Tertiary qualifications in Law

Admitted solicitor to the Supreme Court

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in large multi-national corporations, with 3 years specialist experience in IR / ER or employment law

Experience in manufacturing/mining working with an hourly workforce and unionized settings

Solid understanding of Australian employment and labor laws

Experience in being the lead employer representative in FWC/Court matters

Strong team, interpersonal and persuasion skills

High-quality judgment and sound decision-making
