We currently have a permanent opportunity for a talented Underground Diesel Service Technician to join our Underground Central QLD Field Mining  based in Mackay.

About the Role

Reporting to the Diesel Services Supervisor, the primary focus of this role is to support the product sold through the Company. Diligently carrying out mechanical maintenance, repair and recondition jobs of underground Diesel Powered machinery as directed to a satisfactory standard of quality workmanship and in a timely manner.

In this technical role, your key responsibilities will include:

Perform maintenance, repair and reconditioning jobs on all underground diesel equipment on customers mine sites and in the Mackay based workshop

Support a variety of customers by ensuring a high quality service

Deliver strong customer service and product knowledge to increase business performance and Sales

Provide continuous improvement recommendations to the customer and the broader Hastings Deering business to ensure solutions are effective and efficient

Provide quality customer advice regarding their underground equipment

Field repairs ensure job instructions have been received and understood from Leading Hand/Foreman or Supervisor

Ensure the necessary parts have been ordered, checked and ready for fitment

Be aware of the initial estimated/quoted labour hours and advise Leading Hand/Foreman if the job is to exceed the quote

About You  

You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

3 to 5 years’ experience in a Black Coal Mine

Trade Qualification (Mechanical or Diesel Fitter)

RIISS00030 Explosion Protected Diesel Engine Systems Maintenance skill set

Three to five years’ experience with U/G Diesel Engine systems & equipment in similar role or equivalent

Current Driver Licence

Current Standard 11 (UG)

Current Coal Board Medical

Diagnostic skills to ensure a fault/issue is identified to its root cause before parts replacement

Understanding of underground mining systems and operations, time management, OH&S and quality control.

Ability to develop work procedures, prepare service day plans/reports, basic RCA and trouble shooting skills

Computer literacy and experience in Caterpillar systems

Demonstrated high level of workplace health and safety

Ability to work within a team and unsupervised

Well-developed communication skills

Disciplined report documentation ability
