An opportunity currently exists for an experienced geotechnical logging geologist to join the Diamond Drilling team based throughout the Pilbara. Reporting to the Resource Definition Superintendent, the QAQC specialist will be responsible for ensuring the field teams maintain a high level of geotechnical data capture from our various diamond drilling projects. They will be required to mentor and train the rig geologists in geotechnical logging and instrumentation. They would work closely with the Perth based Geotechnical Engineering team to ensure the scope specific objectives are being met and developing ongoing processes and systems for continually improving the product supplied by the Diamond Drilling team.
Key accountabilities will include:
Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values
Continually promote the strong, positive safety culture within Fortescue and the Drilling team
QAQC oversight of geotechnical logging of diamond core
Training and mentoring of diamond geologists in best practice in geotechnical logging
Training and mentoring of diamond geologist in instrumentation use, specifically multi VWP installations and Packer Testing.
Liaising with Geotechnical Team to ensure scopes are executed in line with expectations
Contribute to continuous improvement of the department by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement
Support the superintendent in meeting company objectives
Qualifications and skills required:

Bachelor Degree in Geological Engineering or Geology
5+ year geotechnical logging experience
Strong skill set in use of AcQuire database systems
Manual C Class licence
Demonstrated mentoring experience
Preferred understanding of Geophysical Logging of drill holes, specifically OTV and ATV
