The role will provide specialist support to site-based operational and functional teams on environmental management aspects (eg. land, biodiversity, water, waste, dust, noise etc) to enable:
Adherence to the Global Environment Standard;
Legal compliance and risk mitigation at the operational level;
the delivery of the functional business plan, environmental authorisations and improvement projects.
Other accountabilities will include:
Environmental monitoring and reporting requirements related to dust, noise, rehabilitation and quarantine programs;
Maintenance of existing approvals, authorisations and licences, including managing amendments and/or obtaining new licences to sustain production;
Maintenance of regulatory compliance register, systems and/or processes that enable operational team leaders to understand and meet their commitments;
Providing operational support and technical advice/coaching for management of site environment matters (including significant event investigations), regulatory requirements and compliance issues;
Providing input into the short and long-term planning at the operation (i.e. engage in planning and operations meetings), ensuring that key environmental and licencing aspects are considered appropriately to support ongoing compliance;
Develop and maintain operations specific environmental documentation (management plans, procedures, SWI’s etc);
Maintain processes for the collection and verification of environmental data relevant to the operation, analysing the data on a regular basis to enable emerging compliance and/or environmental issues to be identified and actively managed;
Support the delivery of strategic improvement initiatives relevant to the operation;
Execute first line assurance activities over:
Material Risk Profile;
Environment metrics and monitoring data;
Preparation and submission of regulator reporting processes;
Ability to execute research-based projects.
Bachelor’s degree (Science / Engineering / Similar);
3-5 years’ experience within heavy industry preferred;
Experience with dust, noise, rehabilitation and quarantine programs desirable;
Detailed understanding of local regulatory requirements and environmental licencing arrangements;
Sound understanding of environment management processes, technologies and relevant industry standards;
Sound communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills;
Can successfully manage time, prioritise, plan, communicate and organise work deliverables;
Capable of working with minimal supervision and as part of team;
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound stakeholder relationships;
Demonstrated ability to influence internal stakeholders through effective data analysis and communication skills - written and verbal;
Experience in identifying issues, analysing for trends, maintaining environmental data and recommending practical solutions;
Experience in and willingness to undertake field based environmental monitoring programs;
Experience with ArcGIS desirable.
