Based in Perth, you will create competitive advantage in the resource modeling process by ensuring that models developed in the region consistently deliver timely and predictable outcomes to the business. You will maintain quality assurance throughout the entire resource modeling process, from data collection and geologic modeling to model delivery and production support. In addition you will ensure characterisation and communication of resource risk in business planning, projects and corporate development activities for the region.
Be the main point of contact between Region and Functions for resource modeling products. Collaborate with Functional and Regional management to coordinate Functional activities in Region. Share responsibility and accountability for delivery of quality Reserve and Resource models while meeting deliverables around scope of work, schedule, and budget.
Assume cradle-to-grave responsibility for the quality of all resource estimation and reconciliation activities taking place in the region. Anticipate issues and take action to ensure quality of resource models and timeliness of delivery.
Collaborate with sites to ensure best practices in ore control, providing a sound basis for F1 reconciliation.
Interact with geological, metallurgical, geotechnical, hydrological, mining and environmental functions to ensure that resource models deliver predictable outcomes to the business at the agreed upon schedule.
Build regional capabilities and expertise through talent recruiting, introduction of standards, training and mentoring, and development of growth opportunities for Regional talent. Collaborate with regional and site management to ensure appropriate budget for training activities for the resource modeling team.
Infuse creative thinking and best practices throughout the resource estimation and reconciliation process. Use model reconciliation to improve the resource estimation process.
Identify cost saving opportunities that result in the development of best practices for reconciliation, drill spacing studies and the minimization of material type misclassification.
Understand the Stage Gate process and work with other functions and project teams to ensure timely delivery of resource models which satisfy all Stage Gate requirements.
Oversee documentation of resource models as required by Stage Gate and Reserve-Resource processes.
Report to Function and Regional management material changes in project scope, schedule, budget, or expected results
Be the recognised Competent/Qualified Person by national and international reporting standards
Training & Experience
Degree in geology, mining engineering or geostatistics and significant experience in all aspects of resource estimation and quality control. Advanced graduate degree preferred.
15+ years of experience within operating mines with wide variety of geological, mining and processing environments.
Demonstrated strong multidisciplinary experience in all aspects of resource modeling, from exploration to model delivery and reconciliation, including geological and geostatistical modeling.
Detailed understanding of QA/QC methods applicable to sampling, geologic interpretation, and the entire resource modeling process.
Experience in the development of risk assessment studies using conditional simulation techniques.
