The purpose of the Innovation team in South32 is to provide a clear pathway to invest and deliver innovation across our organisation.

The Principal – Innovation & Change role is responsible for being an innovation champion within South32, helping to shape and drive the innovation strategic missions for the Business, as well as providing coaching and guidance to steer innovation initiatives through the innovation process to deliver sustainable value. The role will also drive continuous improvement of the innovation process, support Innovation Council engagements and conduct broader stakeholder management both internal and external.
This role will be engaged on a 12-month fixed term basis.
Work closely with innovation initiative owners / sponsors to provide support, guidance and coaching to steer initiatives through the innovation process, to ultimately deliver value for South32. This will include coaching in innovation approaches and tools, as well as assisting with business case framing and connection to company strategy
Support the business to ideate through design thinking sessions, preparing and facilitating Innovate32 workshops where required
Engage innovation ecosystem to create meaningful partnerships in line with innovation priorities and to continue to inform emerging trends
Support mechanisms to scan and identify emerging Innovation and Technology trends, particularly in Mining
Support collaboration with universities, industry bodies, collaborative research centres, and other industry partners to advance innovation across our industry
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
6+ years in a strategy development, project management and/or strategic change management role
Demonstrated experience in Agile, Lean Start Up and leveraging a human centred design / design thinking approach
Demonstrated people management / vendor performance management experience
Coaching, development and influencing skills
Development and facilitation of innovation capability uplift training sessions
Proven experience in communications across all organisational levels, including at Executive and Board level
Project Management experience across cross-functional teams
Broad change experience - operating model / restructuring, process design, technology implementation
