TEMCO is located in Bell Bay Tasmania and is Australia's only ferro-alloy producer, operating four arc furnaces and a Sinter Plant to produce high-carbon ferromanganese, silicomanganese and sinter.

The opportunity

This role will be responsible for leading and managing the TEMCO Production teams in the Furnaces, Sinter Plant and Energy Recovery Unit (including raw materials fixed plant and casting machine systems) to execute safe and efficient production activities in line with the Management Operating System (MOS), weekly Production planning cycle, business targets and objectives.

Lead and supervise the Production execution teams in relevant production areas (Smelting / Sintering / ERU Production - including raw materials and casting machine systems.

Ensure safe execution of production work tasks and verification of critical controls.

Ensure all the Production operators know the material risks for their area, the associated critical controls and then monitor compliance around these controls.

Control all identified risks, complete data collection for all incidents and hazards and ensure these are reporting in a timely manner through the event management system.

Ensure adequate manning for Production areas on shift through engagement with contractors and ensure contractors are compliant with site policies and procedures prior to the commencement of work.

Maintain and encourage a high standard of housekeeping within all areas of production.

Report all major breakdowns and variations to production plan to relevant parties and reporting line. 

Raise all maintenance requests through the work management system (SAP).

Provide input into the weekly production plan as well as the weekly maintenance planning and scheduling process.

Coordinate production related activities during process shutdowns and issue permits prior to work commencing.

Demonstrate compliance to the Management Operating System (MOS) by role modelling and setting clear expectations for disciplined, delivery, accountability and urgency

Expected to be escalation point / single point of contact on back shifts to all areas of the Operation

Manage and escalate issues regarding Production area to Superintendent Production and Production A&I for relevant operational area.

Facilitate pre-start shift meetings with Production Operators, communicating all relevant site notices, provide shift expectations and review high risk tasks.

Guide and coach individual team members to build a high performing team and maintain regular check ins with individuals one on one.

About you

Diploma Mineral Processing (desirable)

Full Drivers licence

Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels

Literacy in computerised maintenance management systems (SAP experience highly regarded)

8+ years’ exposure in Plant / Processing operational activities with previous experience in a supervisor role, with demonstrated ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional teams

Demonstrated knowledge of Metallurgical processes

Demonstrated ability to gain alignment of team, and create buy in of internal and external stakeholders

Relating technical solutions to financial decisions.

Ability to develop common systems and standards working with employees not under direct authority lines. 

Improvement focus - identifying best practice and transferring knowledge.

Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement, diversity and organisational capability.
