Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Working alongside a team of Geotechnical Engineers and reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, this role supports Mine Planning and Operations by providing geotechnical advice and ensures that geotechnical risks are understood, monitored and managed.
What the Role Entails
Geotechnical assessment and input into the mine design, drill and blast, ground support, and paste processes;
Significant focus on stable stope designs and the identification of appropriate controls;
Assessment of excavation, rockmass and support performance;
Geotechnical monitoring including design, installation & analysis of data;
Audits / Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QACQ) of ground support applications & standards;
Underground data collection & stability investigations;
Design development rehabilitation and cablebolt plans;
Numerical modelling of designs
The ideal candidate will need to have the following:
Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Engineering Geology, Civil, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical / Rock Mechanics
Experience in hard rock, underground operation – ideally with open stope mining methods.
Problem solving skills which employ a risk-based approach.
Great communication skills and the desire to be a team player.
