No Rules Against Queensland Labor Mining Ads, But Move Could Backfire

Queensland government ads spruiking its support for the mining industry as Labor comes under fire in the regions for being anti-coal do not break any election advertising rules, but experts say they could still backfire.

The ads, which appeared last week in regional newspapers that have strong mining communities, such as Rockhampton and Townsville, tout the Palaszczuk government’s achievements in the resources sector.

"Since 2015 the Queensland government has helped deliver $20 billion in resource projects in regional Queensland, creating over 7000 Queensland jobs," the ads boast.
