Mine's Plans For Driverless Trucks Condemned By LNP

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington has condemned BHP Mitsubishi Alliance's decision to automate 300 mining jobs at a Bowen Basin mine.

BHP Mitsubishi Alliance announced its plans yesterday, with BMA asset president James Palmer saying haul trucks at Goonyella Riverside mine would be fitted with autonomous vehicle technology allowing the completion of an extensive study and engagement with the workforce, community and all levels of government.

The site will become the first on Australia's east coast to introduce large scale automation with a fleet of up to 86 Komatsu trucks to be rolled out in 2020.
