WA Tops List Of Cheapest Spots In Australia To Buy A House – With A Catch

Amid constant back-and-forth bickering in Canberra over the nation’s house prices, and with first homeowners still facing an uphill battle in securing their own sliver of property, it’s refreshing to know there are still bargains out there.

But, as always, there’s a catch – to cash in on these affordable properties, buyers will have to be willing to make a sea change of sorts.

A joint study by CoreLogic and Aussie Home Loans, released last week, has shone light on the most affordable suburbs across the country and Western Australia has emerged as the most mortgage-friendly state, with eight of the top 20 most affordable suburbs found here.

Topping that list is Mt Magnet, one of WA’s oldest gold-mining towns found a three-hour drive east of Geraldton, which according to the study had a median house value of $37,497.
