Mining Ban Bill Unproductive: CFMMEU, Resources Council

The Queensland Resources Council and the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union have joined forces to oppose a Greens' federal bill to ban coal mining in the Galilee Basin - where Adani's controversial giant coal project is ready to go.

If ever made law, Senator Larissa Waters' bill would permanently ban the mining of all coal in the Galilee Basin and stop the Adani Carmichael mine from starting operations.

The bill would cost jobs, QRC chief Ian Macfarlane said in a statement.

Adani struggled to secure finance for the controversial project but in November announced it would self-fund a scaled-back version.
